Nikola Tesla’s resting place

Although he was born in Lika, a small village near Gospić, a town in Croatia, Tesla's Serbian roots played a role when it came to his final resting place. He lived most of his life in the United States, where he died in his Manhattan hotel room. Tesla's funeral was also held in New York, and he was cremated. Tesla's ashes were kept in the U.S. until 1957, when they were transferred to the Nikola Tesla Museum in Belgrade. This museum also preserves his entire estate. But the story does not end there. In 2014, the Serbian Orthodox Church, with the help of the Serbian government and Belgrade, began a project to transfer the urn from the museum to the church. Because of this political and religious exploitation, there were large demonstrations among the population, so those in power decided to maintain the status quo.
